Although we travel through the town of Ridgefield more than one time each day, few of us notice the town clock. It is nothing special: a smaller black clock which tells the time and lies near the edge of the town by the hardware store and across the street from the bank. This location is probably familiar to most of us, but not too many have knowledge of a clock. However, it is there, whether we realize it or not, and though it does not have too grand or great of a history, there is a small story that goes behind it.

During World War 2, there was a women's organization of Ridgefield that was similar to a Red Cross kind of organization, who carpooled to save money and gas, and gave other people rides to various places. They often held fundraisers for the war, contributed bandages and cloth, as well as other efforts. With some of the money they had raised, they decided to purchase the clock, and dedicate it to the town.

Not too much else is known about the clock, except that it is at least twenty-five years old. It is also thought by some that the Garden Club of Ridgefield donated the clock. After searching the web, doing research at the library, and talking with various people who work at the library, this was the only information available.
