Settler’s Rock is located on the side of Route 116 at the intersection with New Street. It is one of the most important landmarks in Ridgefield, Connecticut. On the rock, there is a copper plaque, which states "On this rock the original settler’s scouting party spent their first night. 1708-1958 A.D."

The scouting party was made up oft three men; Matthew Marvin, John Wakerman, David Waterbury. They visited the future site of Ridgefield in 1697. John Copp and Jonathan Selleck visited the site in 1706. The five proprietors stayed on the rock and built fires all around it to protect themselves from the wolves and coyotes they heard.

Many people assume that it was also camped on by John Copp (again) and John Raymond on May 3, 1708. The interesting thing is that neither of these men ever owned land in Ridgefield after it became a town.
