Process & Timeline for Possible Elem School Closure

CT PLAN FOR SECONDARY SCHOOL REFORM

Recent CT state law increases high school graduation requirements to a minimum of 25 credits by 2020 in specified subjects to reflect the skills needed to ensure success in college and careers in a global society. A proposed draft of RHS course reforms was presented to the BOE on Nov 28. Click HERE to view PowerPoint. This draft proposal will be further discussed at upcoming BOE meetings. THE COMMON CORE STATE STANDARDS

With unanimous vote, the CTState Board of Education adopted new national academic standards, known as The Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The CCSS were "designed to consist of fewer, clearer and higher-level standards; to be aligned with college and work expectations; to include rigorous content and application of knowledge through higher order thinking skills; to be internationally benchmarked so that all students will be prepared to succeed in our global economy; and to be based on evidence and research".

On Oct 11, Assistant Superintendent Patricia Michael presented a report on The Common Core State Standards and District Implementation to the BOE. Ridgefield Now We're Talking is an award-winning live educational program which identifies vital issues as they involve the education of children K-12, and broadcasts programs which will build awareness about these issues within our community. Upcoming programs are:

RESIDENTS' USE of TIGER HOLLOW

Any Ridgefield resident who wants to use the Tiger Hollow track or Ridgefield High School tennis courts during school hours, please contact the security person outside the RHS main office for a one time sign-in. The security person will ask you for proof of Ridgefield residency (driver’s license, etc.) and will take your name and address. Then he will give you a pass (a pass will be available for your car as well; please display it on the dashboard). This is a onetime procedure – there is no need to check in at main office during subsequent visits; you may go directly to the track or tennis courts. The times of physical education instruction (if any) will be posted at the tennis courts.
