AHS Application Information
Application Process
The time to apply is early spring for admission the following September. All students who are going into 10th-12th grades are invited to apply. Those students who must repeat 9th grade are also eligible for acceptance.
Each student who wishes to apply to RAHS needs to complete an application and return it to either the guidance department or Denise Brown at RAHS. The student will be asked to spend a day at RAHS and his/her parents or guardians should schedule an appointment with Denise Brown. The applicant will also interview with the satff and students. Each student accepted will be notified as soon as possible after the process is complete.
Who Should Apply?
We have received many questions regarding the type of student that attends RAHS. As there are myriad types of students, there are infinite reasons they choose to leave the high school; but the cord that ties these students together is their desire to succeed. Our students have abilitly but have experienced, for one reason or another, difficulty maximizing their potential in a traditional setting. It is hard to tell our students from any other high school students in a traditional high school. They represent every typical high school social group. They work, some belong to the National Honor Society, play team sports, many are on the Honor Roll, all do community service, and the overwhelming majority go to college. All work diligently to affect the changes necessary to ensure their academic success.
Each student who comes to the alternative high school is looking for something different. Some come for the smaller environment, others come because this is a school where externals do not count. Each student is free to be himself without fear of rejection; his unique qualities are celebrated.
If you are looking to make a positive change in your education, perhaps the environment at RAHS is right for you.
