Social Studies

Welcome Students and Parents!

rhs_pawprintblank.jpg   Department Philosophy. Why study social studies?  We, the Ridgefield High School Social Studies Department, make history come alive through cooperative learning activities and simulations.  We want our students to study and understand the past in a nurturing, supportive environment which fosters personal inquiry and growth so that they can fully appreciate who they are as American citizens today.
rhs_pawprintblank.jpg  The overall goal of teaching social studies is for students to learn how to make knowledgeable, reasoned decisions that impact society in a positive way.
rhs_pawprintblank.jpg   We teach a variety of subjects including history, economics, geography, psychology, cultures around the world, and other social sciences.  There is an emphasis on critical thinking and persuasive writing.
