Special Services
In the Ridgefield Public Schools, inclusion is not just a practice – it is a mindset. We believe that all students, regardless of ability, deserve access to rich learning experiences, strong social connections, and a true sense of belonging in their school community. Our Office of Special Services is proud to support this vision by partnering with families, educators, and service providers to ensure that students with disabilities and learning differences are meaningfully included, supported, and empowered.
We encourage families to visit our Special Services website for detailed information about programs, services, and supports across our schools, from early childhood through age 22.
Our department provides a full continuum of services tailored to meet the unique needs of each learner. Whether a student receives an IEP, a 504 Plan, related services, homebound instruction, or support through the evaluation process, our goal is to ensure that services are student-centered, collaborative, and forward-thinking. Services are provided by a team that may include special education teachers, speech-language pathologists, occupational and physical therapists, school psychologists, social workers, counselors, nurses, and others – all working together to promote academic, functional, and social-emotional growth.
We are committed to working in partnership with families and guided by both federal and state laws, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. At every step, we strive to center the student, build shared understanding, and support access to the general education curriculum with high expectations for all.
Together, we are building a learning community where every student is known, supported, and included. Again, we encourage you to visit our Special Services website for extensive information about our programs, services, and resources for families.
Our best wishes,
Elizabeth Hannaway, Ed.D., Assistant Superintendent of Special Services
Anthony Showah, Ed.D., Assistant Director of Special Education
